Pacific Gateway Center

Summary of Services:

PGC offers a variety of services from immigration legal services to business development. For our Seniors, we offer classes at the Na Kupuna Makamae Center in Kaka`ako. Classes include: Hawaiian Language, Hula, Lauhala, Hanafuda, Tai Chi, Qigong, Lei/Pua Culture and other special events such as Tech Savvy Seniors. We believe PGC is unique because we work in a very specific way to help people achieve self-sufficiency. We believe people are all valuable and strive to treat them as such. We want to teach: 1. You can learn at any age. 2. Knowledge is the greatest barrier to wisdom. 3. People do care.

Experience:

En Young, Executive Director of the Pacific Gateway Centre builds organizations. En's first job doing this type of work started in 2013. We often talk about “low-income” people as if they are somehow apart from us, but some of them are our family members struggling at times, and our friends and neighbors. En has an Executive MBA from the Shidler College of Business, and a certificate in nonprofit management from KCC.This is En' second role as an ED, his first was at The Food Basket, Inc in Hilo, he also did some government service in administering Federal pass-through grants serving low-income individuals. We never really think that anyoneʻs achievements are attained on our own, we always have those who influence, assist, and support us in our efforts. With En's work at The Food Basket, Inc, they started a program called “Da Bux,” which doubles SNAP recipients dollars for local foods. It has since gone statewide and is supported by a $10M Federal Grant. At Sensei Farms on Lana`i we brought a fresh, local produce offering to market and hired a number of local people there, we think invigorating agriculture again on Lanai.
