As a group, Hawaii Senior Medical Group focuses on preventative health for the senior population that they serve. They encourage their Primary Care Providers to have their patients get their preventative health screenings and reward their Kupuna patients for following their Primary Care doctors recommendations along with their Health Plan Partners. Hawaii Senior Medical Group's  Health Plan Partners, Ohana/Wellcare and Humana have healthy rewards programs that provide gift cards for certain health care activities that are completed. Added to these Health Plan’s programs, Hawaii Senior Medical Group rewards members with $25 Foodland Gift Cards for getting their Annual Wellness Visit completed with their Primary Care Physician and also provides a $25 Foodland Gift Card when members complete their mammogram or colon cancer screening if recommended by their Primary Care Doctor or their health plan. Three (3) Things to Remember:
  1. Have a Primary Care Doctor to help you maintain and coordinate your Healthcare needs.
  2. Follow your Primary Care Doctor's recommendations.
  3. Be sure to have an Annual Wellness Visit with your Primary Care Doctor yearly.

Experience:

Darek Sato is the Senior Manager Provider Network for Hawaii Senior Medical Group.  His role is to grow, facilitate, and maintain Hawaii Senior Medical Group's provider network and all aspects of their Hawaii Office's operations which include providing servicing and education and patient outreach.  Darek left Hotel Management after 17 years to join the Healthcare Industry in 1995.  At the time, Darek looked forward to working in the Healthcare Industry building Independent Physicians Associations or IPAs under Queen's Health Care Plans, in order to improve the delivery of healthcare at a time when Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) were becoming a trend nationwide.  Working with physicians and healthcare leaders in the industry to IPAs, at one point assisting in creating one of the largest IPAs in the State to service a Health Plan partnership with a large local health payer and a large local reputable health system.   He created a program called Music is Good Medicine which was a vehicle to inspire our community to stay well and live healthily. He took Music is Good Medicine to public venues including Elementary through High Schools and Senior Centers having top local entertainers performing.
