Summary of Services:

Family Strengthening, homelessness & housing, children with emotional and behavioral challenges; crisis pregnancy; adult violence and abuse; immigrants achieving citizenship and family reunification; mental health, independent living for seniors and affordable housing.

CCH has been a part of housing advocacy since the 1980’s. CCH started the housing development corporation in 1999 after seeing the tremendous need for affordable housing as a consistent theme in working with all of their program participants struggling to secure permanent housing. In 2015 began construction on first 75 units of senior housing in Mililani. The last 75 units will be completed this year for a total of 300 units. We just completed Kahului Lani, 168 units in Kahului, Maui.

We all have a part to play in improving the quality of life for the people of Hawaii. Catholic Charities Hawaii provides a wide scope of services statewide to help some of Hawaii’s most vulnerable. What are 3 things you want to teach our listeners?

1. Affordable housing is one of the top concerns in Hawai‘i. Everyone matters. Our mission is founded on the core value of dignity--to the extent we can lift up each person, it lifts up the community.
2. The value of hoòmau. Affordable housing as with any issue we face, it takes persistence. Advocacy takes many years before change happens.
3. The value of laulima- our lives are connected. It takes all of us working together to ensure everyone thrives. We all have to give up a little bit to gain for everyone.
