- The YMCA has a variety of chronic disease programs with the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) being the focal program of focus in Simmons field. This program is fully recognized by the Centers for Disease control for its quality. Almost every health insurance company in Hawaii (UHA, HMAA, HMSA, Kaiser, AlohaCare, UnitedHealthCare), including Medicare, will fully pay for the program as long as you qualify as being pre-diabetic or at risk of getting diabetes. It is a year long program so we suggest only those motivated to make true behavior change enroll. A word to the listeners: For those living on Oahu, when you join the program you get a 3-month membership to the YMCA! If you choose to continue on with your own membership we waive the joiner fee.
