Experience:

Eric is a graduate of Punahou School, Harvard University (with honors), and the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai’i, where he was a member of the University of Hawaii Law Review. Eric was admitted to the Hawaii State Bar in 1992. He began his estate planning career at the law firm of Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright in Honolulu, then later served as a Deputy Attorney General in the Tax Division, State of Hawai’i, where he handled tax litigation and charitable trust oversight matters. He has also worked with Honolulu law firm Carlsmith Ball, LLP (as Of Counsel), before establishing his own law firm. He has served as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, the William S. Richardson School of Law since 2003, where he teaches estate planning. Eric is a past Chair of the Probate and Estate Planning Section (2005) and past Chair of the Elder Law Section (2003) of the Hawaii State Bar Association. He is a court-appointed member of the Committee on the Uniform Probate Code and Probate Court Practices, and has received a Martindale-Hubbell “AV” rating from his peers. In April 2007, after more than 15 years of practice, he was elected as a Fellow to the prestigious American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, an organization of more than 2,700 estate planning attorneys nationwide who have demonstrated superior abilities in the field of trusts and estates and have made substantial contributions to these areas through lecturing, writing, teaching, and bar-related activities. Eric has perennially been selected for inclusion to Super Lawyers, the Best Lawyers in America, and Honolulu Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Hawai’i, in the fields of estate planning and trust litigation.
